self-portraits (watercolor)
See I knew there were more recent ones....These were both done 2008 in my watercolor class at UW-Milwaukee

Self-Portraits
So I am going to expand my original thoughts on the purpose of this blog to include a view of my past works and where "I was" when I made them. I believe art can be a window to who I am. I hope you enjoy. Please feel free to give me ANY feedback or comments!
This is an oil painting I did this past summer 2009 "Self in Sunglasses"

"self" 2003...sometimes very confusing and complicated
This was a photo Eric took of me when we were on vacation in Mexico. I uploaded the photo to Illustrator.
I drew a graphite sketch of a tattoo which was inspired from the Book of Kells.
and then incorporated with the photo in Illustrator resulting in this work. 2007
Hope you enjoyed the self-portraits I could find. I will continue to add to this collection.

This is a sketch I did for a charcoal drawing. 1998
Here was the final charcoal drawing...it was Eve crying and I used myself for the inspiration
"Eve is too Big" 1998
These are several sketches I did I would say back in the middle school years of 1993-1995
This one says "you only want what you want"
"Deep Flower" 1994
"the alien cries"
"look into my eye"
It seems I wrote text on some of many of my works. The text on here is hard to read because it is fading away. It says "You never really see where the true sadness comes from"
This one says "Grow, be different, be happy!" 1994
This was a sketch made for a future drawing. 1998
Here was the final drawing the above sketch was for. The project was to make a drawing with something missing and then make what is missing appear in color. So as you can see...

"self" can not read the date

HOBBY FUN FOR EVERYONE-Is the NEXT SHOW I will be participating in
The next show at the Jazz Gallery is all about crafts so I am planning to mix my newest love of making jewelry with that of craft making...and little macaroni noodles. Stay tuned for photos of the artworks I will be entering for judging in the show on November 7th.
Here is the flyer that was prepared by Shana (she is on the gallery committee) and she does a great job!

Latest Update
So I realized it takes a lot of effort to keep up with the many online social blogger, flickr, facebook etc. but here I am :) to give you the latest update!
I have joined the Gallery Committee with the River Artist Association and attended my first meeting. I met one other person, Daryl, who I hope to learn much about hanging art from...he is very technical and one goal I have is to be able to hang art with confidence and be self assured that it looks great once completed.
Others there were Shana, Sue and Mark (which I had previously met. We brainstormed ideas and I scribbled mad notes into my sketchbook trying to keep up. This group is great and came up with ideas for shows all the way through the year. Just wait and see what is in store.
I missed helping to take down the P.S. Exhibit because they did that on the day of my b-day and I already had lots of stuff planned for that day.
So the current show up at the Jazz Gallery is the Riverwest Artist Assoc. All Members Show which we set up last Friday and then opened on Saturday. They accepted pretty much 1-2 artworks from everyone but since there was extra space I was able to have 3 pieces. I am very thankful. Here are the ones in this show:
"Eyes" 7"x14" acrylic on canvas
"Sunset" 12"x16" oil and acrylic on canvas
"GN X" 4'x4' mixed media
This also coincided with RAA Artwalk. This is a walking tour of artist studios and homes in the Riverwest neighborhood. Since I do not live in the neighborhood and did not know anyone that I could display work with I decided to just sit back and watch and rather volunteer to see how all the wheels spin this year.
I was able to help cut labels (which can be very mind boggling...darn those straight lines!) I also helped pass out artist packets which was fun because I got to meet new artist and see lots of new shops and galleries in the area.
And on a side note I had the best sub (called Spagettini and Fuel Cafe) and yes it was filled with spaghetti and meatballs....it was delicious.
So I also got an email back from Emily (she is setting up for the Nov show at the Adonai Arts Center) and she wants my other artwork "Music of Life" in the show as well. Here are the pieces of mine she selected:
"Angry" 16x20 mixed media on canvas
"Singing in the Fields" 2'x4' mixed media on masonite
Over the past month or so I had joined the Milwaukee Arts & Crafts Meetup and have only been able to attend one meeting but hope to join them again in the near future once I get all my ducks in a row with the projects they are working on. I am very happy for them that they found a meeting place.
Also as I was helping Darlene cut labels I learned that she was one of the original founders of MARN (Milwaukee Artist resource Network) and I have been a member of this group for years just have not had much time to dedicate to doing anything with these opportunities...until now.
I found my passcode and logged on and wah-lah! There is a fantastic page all set up for me to display art and tell all about myself. So I will be working on that and sending the link to you all as soon as it is live.
In addition to that we got to talking about Book Arts and she mentioned a class that happens once a month and all these artist of different levels gather together and do book art and she invited me to join. I am very excited and will report how this goes after the meeting.

The next show is be the Riverwest Asrtist All members show and I will have a couple pieces in that show. I am so excited and can not wait to meet a lot of new artist.
I recently joined Milwaukee Metro Area Arts & Crafts Meetup. Our first project is going to be a coloborative book and I finally thought of my idea. I will be doing fashion and inspiration from fashion magazines. I just love fashion and I know this will be a fantastic outlet. Stay tuned for my first page.

Septemeber is here
I have been asked to join a committee meeting for the Jazz Gallery in a couple of weeks. If voted in, I believe I will be sitting for the gallery as well as helping helping to judge artwork, curate new shows and other good stuff.
I have always wanted to participate in a gallery with really enthusiastic artists and I think this may be my big chance.
So keep your fingers crossed that I get voted in!

Flickr link
Hi Friends! Hope you are having a blessed day!
You can now view my artwork on Flickr.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/artbymonimack/collections/

I still have a ton of artwork to take photos of and add so stayed tuned for that and NEW work!
There is a mixture of work from my doodles in school, to the sketches I couldn't help but do on a Thursday after school when I should have been doing homework as well as assignments for school.
This work dates back to when I was about 5 years old. I think it is neat to see the mind's workings of a child so enjoy those doodles that I hold close to my heart.
I tried to organize these by collections. If you know more about Flickr I welcome comments and advice on how to better organize my work!

please pray-waiting on an two answers
As I begin this new adventure of applying to be in shows and learning how to take all that I am and put it on paper in either words or pictures I get the overwhelming since of butterflies in the stomach and happiness mixed with fear and defeat.
I know many people may not like my artwork because in the art business let's face it, it is all subjective. I am slowing learning how to keep creating and not fear the rejection that I am sure is to come sooner or later.
As for now keep me in your prayers. I applied for two more shows which will open during gallery night, this October 09, and I want so badly to be in the shows.
Soon enough I will have more examples of my current art on here...actually just finished a mixed media piece, "Singing in the Fields". It is kinda hard to keep the blog super updated because I work another job all day and find myself consistently busy with something.
I look forward to getting all my photos on a flickr account in addition to many other projects.
I thank Shana G. for being such an inspiration to me and showing me how to get connected. lol...it is addictive.
Happy news

I found out yesterday that a mixed media painting I made entitled "Angry" has been accepted to be in a show at the Adonai Arts Center on November 16, 2009. Happy Happy Joy Joy!...I know how ironic...
